1 Corinthians 6:1-11 ESV
1 When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? 2 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! 4 So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? 5 I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, 6 but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? 7 To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? 8 But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers! 9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

12/24/17 – The Lamb of God That Takes Away the Sins of the World

I.A LAMB PROMISED (Exodus 12:1-13)
A.God makes war on the gods of Egypt with supernatural plagues.
B.The final act would be to kill the firstborn of all sinners in Egypt.
C.To be spared judgment and a just death, would require the blood of a perfect lamb.

II.GOD’S LAMB PROVIDED (John 1:29-31)
A.Jesus is God’s lamb. The lamb God provided for us at great cost to Himself.
B.The blood of God’s Lamb takes way all our sins, past, present, and future.

III.THE LAMB ALONE PROCLAIMED AS WORTHY (Rev 5:11-16)
A.One day, we will sing forever the truth that The Lamb and The Lamb alone is worthy!
B.Today, we proclaim in these moments, through the Lord’s Supper, the truth that The Lamb and The Lamb alone is worthy!

12/17/17 – Hero – God’s Hero Wearing a Cross, not Cape

I.A HERO PROMISED (Deuteronomy 18:15-18)
A.Moses was the hero God used to deliver the Jews from slavery in Egypt.
B.Moses was an imperfect hero though and a sinner who needed God to provide him with a hero to rescue him, too.
C.God promised the people a future hero, like Moses, who would God would also use to rescue them from their slavery to sin.

II.GOD’S HERO COMES (Mark 11:1-10, Zechariah 9:9-10)
A.God’s hero, Jesus, arrives, not in a grand way but In God’s way and the people rejoice that peace is now possible.
B.God’s hero, Jesus, came to wear our cross, not a cape.

III.OUR HERO’S EPIC COMEBACK (Revelation 19:6-11)
A.Jesus, God’s hero, makes the greatest comeback in history, by rising from the dead.
B.Our hero, Jesus, will return on a white horse and put an end to evil, for good.

NEXT STEP:
•This Christmas, be a hero, like Moses, who points people to God’s superhero, Jesus.

12/10/17 – King of Kings – Seeing the Child of the Nativity as the King of the Nations

I.A KING PROMISED
A.David promised God a temple. God promises David an eternal king from his family line. (2 Samuel 7:1-17)
B.God promised Israel an eternal king as far back as one of their patriarchs, Jacob. (Genesis 49:8-12)
C.The Jews rejected Jesus as this eternal King, leaving them vulnerable to the Anti-Christ.
D.Jesus is not just the eternal king of Israel, but all those who are united through faith to Abraham.

II.THE KING COMES…SORT OF
A.Each Gospel opens with a subtle hint that the eternal King has arrived in Jesus. (Matthew 1, Luke 3, Mark 1:14-15)
B.Jesus claimed to be the promised eternal King, for which He was executed by the Romans. (Matthew 27:11, John 19:10-11)
C.In His first coming, Jesus did not come to rule with a scepter. He came to redeem us as our Savior in the name of glory and love.

III.OUR KING CORONATED
A.At the end of time, Jesus takes His place on His throne and is celebrated by the nations. (Revelation 7:9-12)
B.Our lives are now governed by a kingdom missiology and not a political ideology, which changes the way we live and the way we give.

12/3/17 – God, The Son, The Son of God is Born – Hope in the Presence of God at Christmas

I.A SON PROMISED (Genesis 12:1-3, Isaiah 7:10-14)
A.God promises Abraham a Son, through whom the nations would be blessed.
B.Abram’s son, took time and forced Abram to learn to enjoy the presence of God as he waited on the promises of God.
C.Advent reminds us apart from His presence, the provision of His promises falls flat.
D.The son God promised Abraham, would be of a virgin, & His presence among us would mean protection for us.

II.THE SON OF GOD COMES (Matthew 3:16-17)
A.The son, God promised to Abraham and gave Mary, is in actuality, the Son of God, with whom God is well pleased.
B.Jesus is the provided propitiation of God that makes us perfect and God well pleased in us as well.

III.THE SON TAKES HIS RIGHTFUL PLACE (1 Cor 15:20-28)
A.The Son of God will one day be seen and known for who He is really is, God, the Son.
B.As the Son takes His rightful place, it will mean we take hold of what is right for us to have in Him, eternal life in His presence.

•Make this season about enjoying the gift of His presence, not just gifts and presents.
