06/18/17 – The Hope & Comfort of Knowing The Way

John 14:1-7 ESV
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

I.PARTING IS SUCH SWEET SORROW
A.Jesus is saying “see ya later” not “goodbye.”
B.Things did not go the way they assumed but Jesus wants them to keep believing.
C.The promise of a re-union was to bring comfort to their aching hearts.

II.JESUS, THE HOPE DEALER
A.This hope is not just for the disciples present but for all Jesus’ future disciples as well.
B.Our hope is in Jesus’ promise that there is always room for one more in His Father’s Home.
C.We have hope that Jesus does not prepare heaven for us but also us for heaven.
D.We have hope because we are sure Jesus’ promises are not empty words said to bring false comfort.
E.We have hope in that Jesus wants us to be where He is, so He will come for us.

III.COMFORT FROM KNOWING THE WAY
A.We know the way to heaven is through Jesus and Jesus alone and knowing the way brings comfort.

NEXT STEPS:
1.There is always room for one more with the Father but there is not room for more than one way to the Father.
2.Jesus is not just the way to the Father but also to truth and being set free by the truth and to abundant and eternal life.
