12/16/18 – Patient – The God Who Seeks Progress Not Perfection

Exodus 4:13-14 ESV

13 But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” 14 Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and he said, “Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

 
I. EXCUSE MAKING MACHINES
A. The human heart is an idol making factory. The human mind an excuse making machine.
B. People always find a way to do what they want to do.

II. THE UNENDING PATIENCE OF GOD WITH SINNERS
A. The standard we fall short of is not God’s but our own.
B. God is more patient with us than we are with ourselves.
C. It’s not the presence of a struggle with sin that causes God to lose
His patience with His children but rather the absence of it. (Romans 7:18-24)

III. FREEDOM FROM SIN FOR THE SINNER
A. To be free from sin means to be free from its eternal consequences and its earthly control.
B. God is after progress in us not perfection from us.(2 Corinthians 3:18)
C. God is patient with us and will complete the good work He begins in us in Jesus.

NEXT STEPS
1. Moses is not the final Savior demonstrated by His reluctance to rescue God’s people. Jesus volunteered for the job.
