6/24/18 – I Want To Know What Love Is – The Supremacy of Jesus in Crazy Christian Love

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV
4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

I.ONE LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH
A.We have one word for love, leading to its overuse, which was not a problem for the Greeks.
B.We are to mirror God’s “agape” love of us, which is more charity than anything else.

II.THE ESSENCE OF CHRISTIANITY
A.Love of God and others is the essence of what it means to follow Jesus. (Matthew 22:38-40, Romans 13:8-10, John 13:34-35)
B.If we get loving one another right, we get the whole Law of God right.

III.WHAT LOVE IS NOT
A.Love is not a competition.
B.Love is not hatred in disguise that only uses people.
C.Love is not about toleration but telling the truth.

NEXT STEPS
1.God loves us enough to discipline us as His kids, but He also loves enough to punish Jesus for our sin, so that we might become His kids.
