Genesis 1:26-28 ESV
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image,in the image of God he created him;male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 2:18-23 ESV
18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bonesand flesh of my flesh;she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”
Genesis 3:6-9 ESV
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
I. EVANGELICAL FEMINISM
A. Evangelical feminism doesn’t hate male headship but is still hesitant about male headship.
B. Feminists argue far often from pain and past experience rather than truth.
II. EVANGELICAL PATRIARCHY
A. Evangelical Patriarchy is essentially everything about feminism in reverse and uses the Bible to defend itself.
B. Patriarchy is rooted in the fear and insecurity of men that they can’t live up to what God expects of them.
C. The problem with both feminism and patriarchy is that they stress superiority and not equality.
III. EGALITARIANISM
A. Egalitarians believe in the co-headship of the genders in the home and church.
B. Egalitarians argue that male headship is a result of the fall and because of Christ is no longer God’s ideal.
C. Male headship and female helper-ship was established long before the fall.
IV. COMPLEMENTARIANISM
A. Complementarians believe that God created us different from one another but dependentone another.
B. We celebrate male headship in the home & church because it was present before sin entered the creation.
C. Headship is not for the benefit of man but is a burden to bear for the good of the females in their life in the home and the church.
NEXT STEPS
