17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
James 3:17-18 ESV
I. The Production of Wisdom
A. True wisdom is pure because it is undefiled by the flawed and false logic of mankind.
B. True wisdom sees wrongs in light of eternity and trusts God to punish sin.
C. True wisdom is persuadable without being a pushover. (1 Samuel 25)
D. True wisdom makes people merciful, filling their life with the action of compassion. (Luke 10:25-37)
E. True wisdom makes people comfortable in their own skin.
II. The Peace of Wisdom
A. Wisdom is overall characterized by and shows itself in peace. (Matthew 5:9, Romans 12:18)
B. Peace is what God created, what Satan and sin stole, and what Christ has come and will come again to restore. (Isaiah 11:1-11)
III. The Push of Wisdom
A. The push of wisdom is towards reconciliation and in its fullness it restores the peace between not just man and God but also man and man. (Ephesians 2:11-22)
B. The push of wisdom is to assure us we are loved and people who know they are loved, know the presence of peace.
IV. NEXT STEPS
A. We get the wisdom of God by trembling before the Lord, trusting Jesus Christ, treasuring the scriptures, and taking our request for it to God in prayer. (Psalm 111:10, Proverbs 11:2, Colossians 3:16)
